Here is a brief elaboration of the Ten Commandments given by Moses in relation to Sahaja Yoga, showing their deeper spiritual meaning and how they align with the inner transformation brought about through Kundalini awakening:
1. I am the Lord thy God… thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Sahaja Perspective:
This aligns with the principle of Self-realization—recognizing the Divine within. In Sahaja Yoga, once the Kundalini awakens, the seeker experiences the connection with the one and only universal power (Adi Shakti), beyond all false deities or gurus.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image… nor bow down to them.
Sahaja Perspective:
True worship in Sahaja Yoga is based on vibrations, not idols. The emphasis is on direct experience of the Divine through meditation, not blind rituals or image worship without vibrational truth.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Sahaja Perspective:
Speech is sacred. In Sahaja Yoga, mantras and affirmations are used with deep respect and feeling. Words carry vibrations and must be used truthfully, not carelessly.
4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Sahaja Perspective:
Every day becomes sacred for a Sahaja Yogi, but daily meditation becomes the “Sabbath” — a time of stillness, inner silence (thoughtless awareness) and connection with the Divine.
5. Honour thy father and thy mother.
Sahaja Perspective:
Respecting parents aligns with the Mooladhara chakra (innocence and obedience) and Anahata chakra [motherly (left heart) and Fatherly (right Heart) qualities]. It also represents respect for Lord Shiva and the Mother Parvati, the primordial parents.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
Sahaja Perspective:
More than physical violence, this includes violence through anger, hatred, or ego. Sahaja Yoga teaches compassion, forgiveness, and non-aggression—purifying the Agnya chakra (forgiveness center).
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Sahaja Perspective:
Moral purity is essential to keep the Swadishthana and Nabhi chakras clean. Sahaja Yoga emphasizes chastity, respect for marriage, and rising above lustful tendencies.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
Sahaja Perspective:
Honesty and contentment are crucial qualities of a balanced Nabhi chakra. A Sahaja Yogi avoids greed and selfishness, knowing everything comes from the Divine in the right time.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Sahaja Perspective:
This refers to truthfulness and the ability to recognize what is vibrationally correct. Speaking negatively or falsely about others spoils the Vishuddhi chakra (throat), which governs communication and collectivity.
10. Thou shalt not covet… anything that is thy neighbour’s.
Sahaja Perspective:
Desire for others’ possessions or achievements reflects imbalanced attention. Sahaja Yoga purifies attention and teaches us to be joyful in our own spirit, free from jealousy and competition.
