Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi said that anger destroys a person’s peace and wisdom. According to her, anger should not be suppressed; rather, it can be calmed through inner purity and meditation.
She suggested a few main ways to reduce anger:
- Practice meditation — Regular Sahaja Yoga meditation calms the mind and reduces inner heat.
- Learn to forgive — Shri Mataji said, “Forgiveness is the greatest power.” Forgiving lightens the heart and gradually dissolves anger.
- Observe yourself — Instead of reacting immediately when anger arises, look within and understand where the ego, stress, or expectations are coming from.
- Experience the cool power — She explained that divine power is cool and peaceful. Experiencing the “cool breeze” during meditation helps balance the mind.
- Increase love and compassion — Where there is true love, anger cannot stay for long.
- Release negativity to the Earth with the left hand — In Sahaja Yoga, there is also a practice of surrendering negativity and anger to Mother Earth.
One of her beautiful thoughts was:
> “You cannot change anyone through anger, but with love and patience, you can change a great deal.”
