Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has provided a very simple and profound understanding of the relationship between the soul and the Supreme Soul. According to her, their union is yoga.
Here is a summary of his main ideas:
1. Spirit: The Light Within Us
According to Shri Mataji, the soul resides in the heart of a human being.
* **Pure Reflection:** The soul is a pure reflection of the Supreme Soul within us.
* **Sakshi Bhaav** The soul is the power that witnesses our actions, but does not get involved in them.
* **Source of Truth:** Until our Kundalini Shakti is awakened, we cannot realize the soul. After Self-Realization, we know that "I am not this body, mind, or ego, but I am a pure soul."
### 2. God: Omnipresent Power
Shri Mataji has described the Supreme Being as **'Adi Shakti'** or **'Supreme Consciousness'**.
* **Power of Love:** God is the all-pervading power of the universe, which creates and nurtures every living thing.
* **Formless and Corporeal:** God is formless and also comes in corporeal form from time to time through incarnations.
### 3. Union of the soul and the Supreme Soul (Yoga)
Shri Mataji's main message was Sahaja Yoga. She explained:
* **Function of Kundalini:** When the 'Kundalini' power within us (which lies dormant in the triangular bone below the spine) awakens and reaches the Sahasrara Chakra, then **the soul unites with the Supreme Soul**.
* **Experience:** After this union, the person feels a cool breeze on their hands and the top of their head. This is what they call "self-realization."
4. Purpose of life
According to him, the ultimate goal of human life is to achieve union between the soul and the Supreme Being. When a person connects with the soul, all inner vices (anger, greed, and ego) gradually disappear, and he or she begins to live in a state of peace and bliss.
**In short:** Shri Mataji used to say that **"the soul is a part of the Supreme Soul"** and just as a drop of water merging with the ocean becomes the ocean, similarly after self-realization, a human being becomes a part of that divine power.
