Lord Shiva praising Bhagavati Durga

Lord Mahadeva said- O Mahadevi Durga, destroyer of misfortune! I have fallen into the clutches of the enemy; therefore, O compassionate One! Protect me, your devoted and loving devotee, protect me.

O greatly blessed Jagadambika! Vishnumaya, Narayani, Sanatani, Brahmasvarupa, Parama and Nityanandasvarupini- these are indeed your names. You are the mother of Brahma and the other gods.

You alone are manifest in your qualified form and formless in your unqualified form. O Sanatani! You yourself, becoming subject to Maya, become Purusha and through Maya become Prakriti yourself, and you uphold that Supreme Brahman who is beyond this Purusha and Prakriti. You are Savitri, the supreme transcendental Mother of the Vedas.
In Vaikuntha, you are Mahalakshmi, the embodiment of all wealth, in the Ocean of Milk, you are Martyalakshmi, the beloved of Narayana reclining upon Shesha, in heaven, you are Svargalakshmi and on earth, you are Rajalakshmi. In Patala, you are Nagadailakshmi, in homes, you are the household deity, the embodiment of all crops and the one who ordains all prosperity.

You alone are Saraswati, the goddess presiding over the passion of Brahma, and you alone are also the presiding goddess of the life-breath of the Supreme Soul, Shri Krishna. You are Radha herself, the presiding goddess of Goloka, who shines upon Shri Krishna's chest in Goloka, Vrindavanavinodini, the beauty of the Rasa-mandala taking place in Vrindavan, and the presiding goddess of Mount Shatashringa, famous by the name Chitravali.

In one Kalpa you become the daughter of Daksha and in another Kalpa you become the daughter of the Himalayas. You are the mother of the gods, Aditi, and the Earth, the support of all. You alone are Ganga, Tulasi, Svaha, Svadha and Sati.

All the celestial women have arisen from a fractional portion of a fractional part of you. O Devi! Woman, man and neuter are all your forms. You are the form of trees among trees and your creation has taken place in the form of sprouts. You are the burning power in fire, coolness in water, ever the form of radiance and brilliance in the sun, the form of fragrance in the earth, the form of sound in the sky, ever the form of beauty in the moon and groups of lotuses, the form of creation in creation, the one who properly carries out the work of preservation, Mahamari at the time of dissolution and present in water in the form of water.
You alone are hunger, you alone are compassion, you alone are sleep, you alone are thirst, you alone are the embodiment of intellect, you alone are contentment, you alone are nourishment, you alone are faith and you yourself are forgiveness. You yourself are peace, delusion and radiance, and you alone are fame as well. You are modesty and Maya, the embodiment of enjoyment and liberation. You are the embodiment of all powers and the bestower of all wealth.

Even in the Veda you are indescribable, therefore no one truly knows you. O Goddess of the gods! Neither Shesha, with his thousand mouths, is capable of praising you, nor do the Vedas have the power to describe you, nor can Saraswati herself extol you; then how can any learned person do so?

O Maheshwari! She whose praise even Brahma and the eternal Lord Vishnu cannot offer, how can I, terrified by the battle, praise her with my five mouths? Therefore, O Mahamaya! Be gracious to me and destroy my enemy.

This hymn was recited by Lord Shiva to please Bhagavati Durga. By praising her through this hymn quoted from the Shri Krishna Janma Khanda of the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Shambhu slew Tripurasura. This king of hymns destroys all ignorance and fulfills desire
