Sahaja Family

Gather such people who are seeking God, who are wholeheartedly seeking God. If they are already stuck with a guru(false), then do not bring them to Me and stick them here, otherwise, they fight with Me.
Everyone must have some known people, who are good people, who have decency in them, who do good to the world, always wish well for others, think good for others and who do not hanker after anything. Gather such simple people and bring them(to Sahaja Yoga). And don’t gather patients. I am fed up with sick people now. #
It so happens that now if someone’s disease is not cured, then they get after my life, “Mother, my disease is not going away”. What can I do if it doesn’t go away? The point is, what will I gain even after curing him? And they will keep pestering Me. And they will be the first to come and sit(in My programs). The most caught up people always come and sit in front. Now the problem is, how do I cure them? And they will nag me to death, “no, please cure me, You have to do it.” ...
Those who are good people, do not go to the extremes, they remain in the center, live in dharma, who are ordinary, common people, find such people. Very prominent people are very difficult to handle. ...
You always have interest in Sahaja Yogis. How are Sahaja Yogis, hope they are not in any trouble, they are not bothered about anything. You do not have interest in them(Sahaja Yogis) but in useless people. Those who are sahaja yogis and those who are seeking God, should be brought to one place. When these people will become all right, then we can correct the difficult ones. Otherwise, you bring such people who have four horns coming out of them. I don’t understand how to save Myself from them. Sometimes they run from this side, sometimes sometimes from that side. They just don’t listen to anything. So bring ordinary, simple people.
Now, if you say, he is your father, she is your mother, that is not the criteria. The criteria is, that whosoever is seeking God, only he is my brother, my sister, my mother. Christ had once said, “Who are My brothers, and who are My sisters?” This is a very serious sentence. “Who are my brothers and who are my sisters?” The Sahaja Yogis are His brothers and Sahaja Yoginis are His sisters. He is their eldest brother. Ganesha is your eldest brother. And those who are related to you by these worldly relationships, and into worldly relationships, these are worldly only.
There is no need to be mad after them(relations). Gradually, you will be surprised, they will all come into it(Sahaja Yoga). By observing your behavior, your thoughts, your lifestyle, gradually they will all come. But there is no need to waste energy after them. When they all come gradually, let them come. You should reduce your sense of belonging. This is superfluous in us Indians, and none in the west. My son, my daughter, my this, reduce this a little bit.
But because Sahaja Yoga is going to flourish in the family, it is essential that the family atmosphere should be good, and gradually it must be expanded in your family as well. There is no need to hurt any family members in any way, gradually everything will be alright. It depends on your handling, and what authority you have at home, it depends on that. This way, bring everyone in love and by proving your love, bring them in Sahaja Yoga. And Sahaja Yoga is self-proven, there is no need to prove it. And because of that (Sahaja Yoga), it adds special charm to you. And you too will attain perfection. Now you are all perfect, and I bow to you all.’

The Root, Side Effects and Remedy of INFERIORITY

The root, side effects and remedy of inferiority

The more society is being observed . The more it is becoming clear that we are all so similar. We just keep becoming different through our choices.

If we have come from this immature society then some learned behaviors will naturally be the same . Adults with a teenage mindset give their younger generation what they have.

Because of inferiority, real self-confidence cannot come . To live this human life, self-confidence is a very necessary weapon, if it is not there then no one can save you from being played by other people .

The more inferiority grows, the farther it takes you from the truth . The farther we go from the truth, the more wrong decisions will be made ; the more wrong decisions, the more incompetent we will find ourselves and forget self-confidence , we will become surrounded by negativity .

Then the external machinery will fill its pockets from your weaknesses ; false courses, rigid social rules , false gurus . All are sitting there to take advantage .

We do not know ourselves, because of which we cannot know others either . Because of this, we also become easy hits. Perhaps that is why all incarnations have said to know yourself.

I have not gone very deep yet but from whatever I have been able to understand externally , I have understood this much that inferiority is a very dangerous thing and seems to leak into every sphere of human life.

When there is inferiority, how many people will consider themselves inferior while that is a lie. None of God's creations is useless . The more lies we tell ourselves or the more tightly we hold onto them, the more it will harm us .

It will harm us to such an extent that it will become difficult to recognize ourselves and it will take us into millions of illusions and make us perform all sorts of actions . Inferiority is a deep pit , it distorts human intelligence and then on top of that we put on the lid of ego as well, because of which we cannot recognize at all what is right or wrong .

Now what is the way to fix this . Know yourself and then others also start becoming understood on their own.

To know ourselves we need help like children, so our Creator has sent that to give to all of us . Our own personal power   which is in our subtle instrument and all of God Ji who are within us.

Will they not help us and they do help us. Just have the desire and the courage to make the inner journey . The greatest and truest well-wishers are seated within, in the heart .

We have to reach them by working hard with the mind we have created ourselves . Then they see, they make us our own true well-wisher, the meaning of love is also experienced through them, they destroy all inferiority, lies and we ourselves move toward self-confidence when we understand that hold on to reality ; lies , illusions, assumptions give nothing except suffering .

You will not find it by searching outside, it is within .

Hail Shri Mata Ji

Significance of Sahaja Yoga Meditation in reducing Academic STRESS

Background of Study:

The Indian school education system is textbook-oriented that focuses on rote memorization of lessons and demands long hours of systematic study every day. The elaborate study routines that are expected by high school students span from the morning to till late evening hours, leaving little time for socialization, recreation, play games and sports by full strength.

Objective of Study:

The present study was conducted with a view to see the effect of Sahaja Yoga meditation on stress among school children.

Materials and Method:

Non-equivalent control group design was used for this experiment. The participants were 8th grade students from a school located in Mumbai. The students were randomly assigned to control and experimental groups. Experimental group received the treatment of Sahaja Yoga meditation program for 6 weeks, whereas the control group did not receive any treatment. Both groups were free to do their daily routine activities. Stress was assessed using a questionnaire before and after 6 weeks of Sahaja Yoga meditation program.

Statistical Analysis:

Collected data were analyzed with the help of the standard statistical technique t-test to conclude the investigation.

Results:

The results of the study showed a significant difference in academic stress (p < 0.05) after 6 weeks of Sahaja Yoga meditation program. However, there was no significant improvement in academic stress (p > 0.05) in the control group.

Conclusion:

Sahaja Yoga meditation program is helpful to manage the academic stress of school girls.

Message for Humanity

A MESSAGE FOR HUMANITY TODAY
The world has never spoken so quickly,
and perhaps never listened so little.
Across invisible networks, billions of human beings are connected,
yet the human heart often remains alone.
We have taught machines to think,
sent our voices across oceans in an instant,
and gathered almost all human knowledge beneath our fingertips.
Yet we have not learned how to silence hatred.
Religions speak of God while His children quarrel over His name.
Prosperity grows beside hunger.
Information multiplies while wisdom struggles to be heard.
And Mother Earth quietly bears the weight of our desires.
Perhaps the great crisis of our age is not merely political, economic, technological or environmental.
Perhaps it is a crisis of consciousness.
For what shall humanity gain if it becomes master of the machine,
but remains a prisoner of anger, greed, fear and division?
Shri Mataji said:
“They have never known the power of love. They have only known the power of hatred. Power of love is so powerful, so dynamic.”
These words seem to stand before our century like a mirror.
For hatred is loud.
Hatred divides the world into us and them.
Love discovers that beneath our languages, nations, colours and beliefs,
the same human longing is seeking peace.
And perhaps humanity's next evolution will not be measured by faster computers, taller cities or more powerful weapons.
It will be measured by whether man can discover the Spirit within himself.
Shri Mataji said:
“First your yoga, first unite. Unite with the Spirit.”
For when man becomes united within,
his relationship with the world begins to change.
Another person's suffering is no longer distant.
Another nation is no longer merely foreign.
Another faith is no longer necessarily a threat.
Another human being is no longer merely another.
We begin to discover the family hidden beneath all our divisions.
Humanity has tried changing systems.
It has changed rulers, borders, currencies and technologies.
Perhaps now it must transform the human being.
Because peace written upon paper cannot endure
if war continues within the heart.
And no technology, however intelligent,
can substitute for an awakened human consciousness.
The question before our generation is therefore not only:
What kind of world shall we build?
It is:
What kind of human beings shall inhabit it?
If we awaken only greater power,
we may become more dangerous.
knowledge may become wisdom,
and freedom may become responsibility.
The world does not suffer from a shortage of intelligence.
It suffers from a shortage of awakened hearts.
And perhaps the revolution humanity now needs
will arrive without armies and without conquest
quietly,
within millions of human beings discovering that the peace they demanded from the world
had first been waiting within themselves.
Change the consciousness,
and perhaps the world will follow.

Future Worry - An Illusion

Future Worry—An Illusion"
"All of us live our common external lives in the present based on certain events that are taking place.
Because of this, based on things that have happened in the past, we continuously keep thinking about some 'so-called future'.
And, believing what we have thought to be true, we sometimes become happy inwardly and sometimes sad, because of which our nervous system is adversely affected and we gradually begin to fall prey to various kinds of illnesses.
If we contemplate deeply, we will find that we are actually becoming ill and unhappy merely because we think about the 'future'.
We are unable to understand that the future we are worried about is based only and only on events of the past, which will never happen again in exactly the same way.
That is to say, due to profound ignorance, we are trying to become "God" and are only increasing the "ego" within ourselves, because we ourselves are trying to create future events.
"Mother Adi" has created our body with the help of the five elements and has established crores of gods and goddesses within us.
Who, when we accept only the present as 'truth' and live joyfully, help us through their various powers, due to which our limbs and organs function.
And at the same time, the nine planets have been established within us at nine main centers.
And, on the contrary, when we begin to behave by considering the future based on our thoughts to be true.
As a result, on the one hand, all these divine beings begin to become 'powerless', because of which energy stops reaching those parts of the body and those organs begin to become diseased.
And on the other hand, these nine planets become angry with us because we have become the determiners of the future.
And by creating numerous adverse circumstances in our lives and generating numerous obstacles for our lives, they cause us suffering so that we stop thinking.
Because if this were to happen, every human being on the entire Earth would create a new law according to their thoughts, completely disrupting the system of the results of past karma and throwing the divine order into disarray.
Therefore, whenever a human being tries to become 'God', then 'Mother Nature', the five elements, all the divine beings and all the planets and stars together ultimately completely destroy his life through various kinds of illnesses and other means.
In this way, the "golden opportunity" in the form of human life given to a human being for his "spiritual upliftment" also comes to an end and his "soul" becomes a recipient of countless sufferings for eternity."--'Impulses'

The more disorder within, the farther the destination
How to recognize this disorder ?
Where truth, heart and expression are suppressed . That environment , group and human are not safe . Such people get their ego hurt very quickly and will appear extremely emotional .
They are extremely sensitive about themselves. If a needle is pricked into them, they feel it as if a mountain has fallen, and yet when they make a mountain fall on someone, they appear to treat it as if a needle has been pricked .
Manipulative tendencies will be seen in these very people . There is no respect for natural laws . They themselves are not worthy of respect, so if there is no respect for themselves, they will show absolutely none for others either .
They possess the skill to effortlessly control , dominate, and get what they want, but when it comes to truth , discernment , reading the situation , peace, then there is no trace of them .
Now because they are entangled in the mire of society and perform anti-nature actions, they appear miles away from positive emotions. And then they wander in search of attaining them . There is a whole machinery in place to exploit these very weaknesses .
The root of the disorder is within oneself. The right is also within oneself , the disorder is also within oneself .
If one does not work hard to reach the " right " situated within oneself, then one will be seen trapped in the grip of disorder .
Whereas analysis and observation take time and if someone is showing a lie then observation also fails . The subtle system is the best detector : it gives instant results .
This was the decoding route but if anyone can save someone from this mess, it is the human being himself. He just needs the help of the power situated within himself ; Mother Nirakara and him . The rest will automatically receive training from within .
Those who are carrying a great deal of disorder take time . Those carrying less disorder reach sooner.
The very thing that everyone already knows ; spiritual development rests on the cleanliness of the heart and mind. The cleaner, the greater the development .

Sahaja Yoga Meditation- Promising Therapy for children with ADHD

The results of this trial programme indicate that Sahaja Yoga Meditation has potential as a promising therapy for children with ADHD, when offered via a family treatment approach and in combination with existing medical treatment. Although results are limited by the small number of children for whom complete data were available, the consistency of the findings, which drew on different measures of child outcomes, two treatment groups, and both parent and child respondents makes a good case for the benefits of the treatment programme. The results were in keeping with the three aims ofthe study. First, core symptoms of ADHD were improved: parent ratings on the Conners Parent–Teacher Questionnaire, which assesses attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, were significantly reduced over the course of the programme. Children also reported that they felt calmer, less panicky and more relaxed. Second, associated symptoms of ADHD, such as anxiety and poor confidence, were reduced; parent ratings of child self-esteem showed significant improvements in children’s confidence, social abilities and involvement. Third, functional benefits were noted, child–parent relationship quality improved through a significant reduction in the level of conflicted interactions. Parents reported that the children’s approach to school and homework had improved during the SYM programme, and the children themselves said that they were more able to concentrate at school. Improved sleep was another positive outcome reported by parents and children. The study design, as a clinical treatment trial, did not include a formal control group, but the ‘waiting list’ children provided a quasi-control group that provided evidence for the effectiveness of the SYM intervention, over other possible contributors. For this group, baseline ADHD scores at recruitment and at week 1 of the treatment programme (several months later) remained the same, and then decreased significantly over the 6- week SYM programme. Statistical evidence for the benefits of SYM was also demonstrated in a series of repeated measures analyses, which entered child and family factors as covariates. These tests showed that the reduction in ADHD symptoms and the improvements in self-esteem and child–parent relationship quality were not explained by child age, sex, medication status or cognitive ability, or by family structure, mothers’ age or education. This initial investigation of SYM for managing ADHD was not able to include the HARRISON ET AL.: SAHAJA YOGA MEDITATION 491

design features of a clinical trial, which would allow allocation and comparison of treatment groups such as SYM in combination with pharmacological treatment and SYM alone. The children who entered the programme also varied in the severity of their ADHD symptoms and use of medication. Three-quarters of the children were receiving psycho-stimulant drugs at the commencement of the programme and combined this with the SYM treatment, whereas the non-medicated children used only SYM. Although the numbers in the latter group were very small, it was noteworthy that the observed reduction in ADHD symptoms did not differ by children’s initial medication status. Further evidence that the improvements were attributable to the SYM intervention (and not to medication) comes from the fact that over half of the children who were taking prescribed medication had been able to reduce their medication during the course of the treatment, and these children also showed significantly greater improvements in ADHDrelated behaviours than the children who maintained their initial level of medication. The fact that the SYM effects occurred regardless of concurrent medication suggests an interesting corollary to reports from the Multimodal Treatment (MTA) study of children with ADHD that ‘intensive behavioural treatments are a viable alternative to medication in treatment of ADHD’ (Pelham et al., 2000, p. 523). In the current study, the treatment was not behavioural, but it was intensive in design, involving parents and children in twice daily meditation sessions at home and regular clinic sessions with trainers. Like the MTA findings, the SYM results are encouraging for parents andcommunities seeking ways to minimize child medication

In sum, this is the first study investigating the effect of Sahaja Yoga Meditation as treatment for ADHD behaviours. The study aimed to investigate SYM as an additional familyoriented treatment, alongside any conventional medical treatment that was received by the children, and the design of the study was not meant to compete with medication treatment. Preliminary findings provide initial evidence of the benefits of SYM in alleviating HARRISON ET AL.: SAHAJA YOGA MEDITATION 493 the behavioural symptoms of children diagnosed with ADHD, confirmed through parent report and children’s own evidence. According to the children, these benefits extended beyond the immediate environments of the home into the classroom. Future directions in SYM research would be well served by larger studies that involve teachers as well as parents in following children’s progress, and longer term studies with follow-up assessments to examine the longevity of the treatment method. Furthermore, the fact that confirmatory analyses provided evidence that medication did not add significantly to the changes observed with SYM, it may be of interest for the future to compare the meditation effects in medication-free and medicated children, or even to compare SYM with other behavioural treatments for ADHD. Rigorously controlled clinical trials on larger and more homogenous populations would be needed to provide the necessary rigour to assess the relative effect of SYM as an alternative or complementary treatment for ADHD. However, the indications are that SYM may offer families an effective management tool for family-oriented treatment of childhood ADHD

The End of the Path

THE END OF THE PATH The mind, with a child-like innocence achieves very quick results. Whatever may be the loads of the mind, if the longing is honest and earnest, sooner or later, the aspirant can get Self-realisation. After reaching this state the vibrations start emitting from the extremities. These are described by Adi Shankaracharya in his work ‘Ananda Lahari.’ These vibrations are the waves of Divine Love that can fill also other persons’ inner being and give them the same experience of Self-realisation. This is how the chain reaction starts. One light enlightens another. The physical manifestations are as follows: The pupils of the eyes become dilated (Parasympathetic action). The face becomes radiant, the body becomes light, all tension is completely removed. The rising of the Kundalini can be seen by others and felt by the aspirant. First the throbbing is clearly felt at Sahasrara (apex of the brain) and when it stops, complete silence is felt within and in all awareness. The flow of grace is felt coming down, cooling the whole being. As the attention moves to the subtle, gross attachments drop out. A person gradually loses identification with falsehood and artificiality. In matter, he sees beauty and not its possession value. In knowledge, he identifies himself with the Truth and is not afraid to profess, nor does he indulge in the double standards of life. His flow of love becomes spontaneous, generous, without any tinge of attachment, possession or any return. The person becomes ageless-a hollow personality. Now let us see what happens inside. The attention of the consciousness moves to the inner being (Kundalini). As the thread (Sutra) of a necklace is passing through every bead of the necklace, the inner consciousness (Kundalini) is also passing through every human being. As soon as our attention moves to our inner consciousness we can move on to everybody’s Kundalini. One starts feeling the Kundalini, its nature, its position in other persons. Collective consciousness is thus established. Now you become a universal being. After some days you cannot say who the other person is. The power of love is so great and dynamic that with the movement of your fingers you can move the Kundalini of thousands. It becomes child’s play. This is how the en masse evolution of human beings will take place. These are the signs of the advent of the Golden age of Truth (Satya Yoga). Let us forget whatever hardships we have suffered in our search in the past. It does not matter if some could not find it before this. You have to open your mind and understand that though the discovery is unprecedented, it does not make any seeker or predecessor small. If some experiments are made, it does not matter if, ultimately, we have found out the way. It is a collective achievement. Perhaps in the chaos of Kali Yoga it was to happen and many of us, who have been earnestly searching in many lives, are reborn to have their promises fulfilled by the Divine. Maybe we were our own predecessors. On the tree of life there might have been very few flowers but now the blossom time has come. Their fragrance of longing has collectively materialized the manifestation of Sahaja Yoga. Many are going to jump into the realm of thoughtless awareness where you get introduced to yourself and start identifying with your universal nature. Those who deserve will get the throne of their inner being which rules the skies of peace, and the oceans of divine love and supreme knowledge within, which is limitless (Anand).

The Promised GOAL

THE PROMISED GOAL All religions have promised inner silence when you reach the state of Self-realisation-the inner miracle of the subtle awareness and not gross jugglery. The Bhagavad Gita says that you become the witness (Sakshi Swarup) of the play of the Divine. Many modern thinkers are also talking about the new awareness. This has been described as ‘thoughtless awareness’ which results in collective consciousness. We hear of many prophesies made by ancient and modern writers about the evolution of a new race of super-human beings of unique awareness. These are no longer empty words. Through the discovery of Sahaja Yoga it is possible to achieve the transformation of the human consciousness to the higher planes promised by various seers. The subject of Kundalini is no longer a matter of book knowledge. Now you can see, with the naked eye, the breathing of the Kundalini at the Mooladhara. You can feel the different Chakras in the spinal cord with your fingers. Formerly, bridging the gap in the Sushumna was the insurmountable problem. But it is being discovered that this gap can be filled with the vibrating power of Divine Love. The Kundalini rises like a majestic mother and breaks the apex of the brain (Brahmarandhra) without giving the slightest trouble to the child (Sadhaka). It happens in a split second, in the short spell between two successive thoughts. Of course, if the aspirant (Sadhaka) is diseased or his Chakras are constricted by over activity of the sympathetic nervous system, the Kundalini, being the Mother of every individual and the embodiment of love, knowledge, and beauty, knows how to reveal Her love beautifully and to give rebirth to Her child without causing any hurt. There are many descriptions about Kundalini warning us against the dangers and perils of the taming of Kundalini. Also many books describe various gross or frightful experiences of the Kundalini awakening. Actually this is caused because Kundalini cannot rise without Sahaja Yoga, i.e., if someone, who is not Self-realised, tries to awaken Her, the Kundalini does not leave Her seat and, without the proper invitation, the Kundalini becomes adamant and angry. Thus the sympathetic gets into activity. When She is accused of sex, She sends heat waves over the sympathetic nervous system which causes the constriction or blockage of the plexuses and the path of the Kundalini is completely broken down. Sometimes one gets into funny gesticulations or loses complete awareness of the outside. Moreover with mishandling of Chakras and Kundalini due to the ignorance or greed of the teacher, the chance of realisation for the aspirant can become very poor and sometimes impossible. The mind that is very much conditioned, or the mind that is the slave of self-indulgence or of egoistic actions and thoughts, is also a very slow conveyance for Sahaja Yoga. Even if you read too much about the de-conditioning of the mind, you may get only further conditioned. If you try to de-condition by efforts, you can become conditioned much worse than what you were. De-conditioning is only possible through Divine Love. The main ‘condition’ of Sahaja Yoga is that your will and freedom are always respected. In Sahaja Yoga the person is fully aware and alert and receives inner silence and experience without doing any unnatural movements. He sits in a completely easy pose throughout or he also may lie down (Sahajasana or Shavasana). The breathing is normal or less than normal.

Ganapati and Ganas Protects You

There are Ganas that are, as we know, responsible for all kinds of corrections in you. These are the Ganas which act through the left side. As we know very well that cancer is caused by the problems of the Left side. And, on the left side are these Ganas, which are completely in unison with the Devi’s powers.
She doesn’t have to tell them, She doesn’t have to guide them, they are already built up like that. And these Ganas are the ones which, I should say, target, they target the diseases and cure you. We have cured many cancer patients and many left-sided people through the Ganas.
But Ganas won’t listen to anybody else. And Ganapati is their leader, I should say, their controlling power. So, if your Ganapati is alright then problems are less, but if the Ganapati is not alright, then all kinds of problems can come up and they can torture you. This is one of the things I am so particular about, that we must get our Ganeshas corrected.
The other day I received a big envelope with letters saying that, “Mother, difficult to control Ganas,” but [it’s] difficult to control Ganapati Himself! So, what should we do? We’ll get into traumas! A simple thing is, at such a point when you are in a trauma, and when you cannot overcome this defect of the Ganapati, then what you should do is to meditate.
Meditation is the only way you can overcome Ganas. The first of all is the upbringing of the children and then the atmosphere as it exists. With these two important factors, you can do well with the Ganas. But the problem is that human beings get lost, and they don’t look after their Ganapati.
So, as you worship the Goddess, you are also worshipping Shri Ganesha who is the power behind Her. But the greatest power that is belonging to the Mother is your protection, protection from all kinds of things. All the left hand side protections are there.
They are described, as you must have learned, in the Devi Mahatmyam, what a protections She gives you. So tremendous in Her protecting power, and this protecting power gives you understanding: how kind She is and how, I should say, how very, very protective of you, extremely protective. She’ll guide you all the time that you should be protected, on the left side, and through Her Ganas She looks after you.

Why Sahajayoga Meditation and How it works

M editation is seen by a number of researchers as potentially one of the most effective forms of stress reduction.1 While stress reduction techniques have been cultivated and studied in the West for approximately 70 years, the data indicates that they are not consistently effective.2 Meditation however, has been developed in Eastern cultures and has a documented history of more than several thousand years. Eastern meditative techniques have been developed, trialed and refined over hundreds of generations with the specific intention of developing a method by which the layperson can regularly attain a state of mental peace and tranquillity, ie. relief from stress. It is astrategy that can easily be adapted to the needs ofclinicians and their patients in the West.

How does meditation work?

Parasympathetic response

Most theories are based on the assumption that meditation is a sophisticated form of relaxation involving a concept called the parasympathetic response. Psychological stress is associated with activation of the sympathetic component of the autonomic nervous system which, in its extreme, causes the ‘fight or flight response’. Meditation and any form of rest or relaxation acts to reduce sympathetic activation by reducing the release of catecholamines and other stress hormones such as cortisol, and promoting increased parasympathetic activity which in turn slows the heart rate and improves the flow of  blood to the viscera and away from the periphery.

Sahaja yoga meditation Sahaja yoga meditation (SYM) is the technique of choice in the MRP. Sahaja yoga meditation aims to promote the experience of ‘thoughtless awareness’ based on the original meditative tradition. Meditators in the MRP consistently describe the ability to achieve this experience. They are encouraged to practise twice daily for approximately 15 minutes. Sahaja yoga meditation is well suited for the general population and for research, because it is easy to learn and is taught free of charge. Sahajayoga meditation is currently used in three Sydneyhospitals for patients, staff and public. Feedback from management teams and anecdotal reports from patients and carers are favourable. As yet no adverse effects have been reported in the MRP’s trials, clinics or in the literature. The MRP has conducted a number of small and large trials on SYM which have generated promising results in Australian conditions. A randomised controlled trial of meditation for moderate to severe asthma compared SYM to a relaxation control. SYM was more effective in a number ofcontrol. SYM was more effective in a number of objective and subjective endpoints. A number of locally conducted pilot studies examining the effect of SYM suggest that it may have a beneficial role in menopausal hot flushes, severe migraine and psychological stress. Randomised controlled trials are underway in order to obtain definitive data. Studies in India suggest that SYM is more beneficial than mimicking exercises in the treatment of epilepsy and hypertension.

A simple and effective rule of thumb when choosing or recommending a meditation technique is to assume that ‘the best things in life are free’. Organisations involved in the commercialisation and marketing of often costly ‘meditation’ techniques, courses and ‘master classes’ are least likely to be selling an authentic method. Unfortunately in these situations the welfare of the individual and the community usually become secondary to profit or fame.

SHRI GANESHA
The Wisdom of Pure Innocence
11 September 1983 | Tivoli, Italy
Shri Ganesha Puja — The Birthday of Shri Ganesha
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Salutations to Shri Ganesha,
who abides at the sacred root,
whose nature is innocence,
whose ornament is wisdom,
whose strength is purity,
and whose supreme wisdom is surrender to the Mother.
He is the child, yet the Ancient One.
He is innocent, yet none can deceive Him.
He is silent, yet from His wisdom arises right discrimination.
Know, therefore, that innocence is not ignorance.
“Innocence is the wisest thing.”
That which is ignorant may be deceived.
That which is innocent remains untouched.
As the lotus rests upon water yet is not stained by it,
so true innocence moves through the world without becoming bound by the world.
Shri Mataji teaches that Shri Ganesha resides within us.
Therefore seek Him not only in the image before the eyes,
but in the purity established within the Mooladhara.
Let the attention descend to the root.
Let the mind become humble.
Let the heart pray:
For where there is purity, discrimination awakens.
Where discrimination awakens, ego loses its throne.
Where ego diminishes, humility appears.
And where humility becomes natural, beauty enters conduct.
What is knowledge without humility?
A burden upon the intellect.
What is efficiency without love?
Power without fragrance.
What is spirituality without joy?
A lamp covered by its own smoke.
Therefore Shri Mataji teaches that one may be knowledgeable and yet humble, efficient and yet loving, aware and yet discreet.
This is the beauty of the complete personality.
Do not proclaim:
“I know.”
Do not declare:
“I am greater.”
The fruit-bearing branch bends low.
Therefore humility is not the denial of wisdom.
It is the fragrance of wisdom.
And beware of fanaticism, even in the name of the Divine.
For Shri Mataji says:
“There is no love in fanaticism.”
Where there is harshness, where there is the fever of superiority, where one continually judges another, there the sweetness of innocence has been obscured.
The awakened one becomes prasanna-chitta:
joyous, peaceful, unburdened.
For Truth is not made greater by anger,
nor does the sun require a sword to establish the day.
Now hear the secret of the Present.
“Innocence keeps you in the present.”
The past has departed.
The future has not arisen.
Between these two shadows shines the eternal Now.
There the innocent one abides.
When the mind runs backward, it meets memory.
When it runs forward, it meets imagination.
But when it becomes still in the present, it touches the Divine Power.
Therefore abandon the unnecessary burden of becoming.
Behold what is.
Witness the play.
Remain unattached.
Shri Mataji says of innocence:
“It sees the play, just sees, it enjoys the play, just enjoys.”
As the sky witnesses the passing clouds without travelling with them,
so let the Spirit witness the movements of thought.
When thought says, “Come with me,” answer:
“Not this, not this, not this…”
Neti, neti.
Not this thought.
Not this fear.
Not this pride.
Not this agitation.
Not this passing shadow.
Until that which merely watches remains.
And in that silence, innocence shines.
Yet do not mistake innocence for childishness.
Shri Ganesha appears as the Child,
yet He is the eldest.
Time has not aged His innocence.
Power has not corrupted His purity.
Wisdom has not produced pride.
Thus spiritual maturity is not the abandonment of innocence.
It is wisdom returning to innocence.
Guard also the sacred boundaries of life.
Let affection be pure.
Let friendship be healthy.
Let relationships remain within maryada.
For attachment says:
“You belong to me.”
But pure love says:
“May you belong to the Divine.”
And if another rises higher than you, do not become jealous.
Learn.
If another possesses virtue, do not merely adore him.
Become virtuous.
For jealousy sees another's light and chooses darkness.
Wisdom sees another's light and lights its own lamp.
Therefore Shri Mataji declares:
“Wisdom is your glory.”
Yet even wisdom reaches its perfection only in surrender.
Hear therefore the heart of this teaching:
“The greatest wisdom of Shri Ganesha was that he was surrendered to his Mother.”
What then remains to be conquered?
Not the world.
The ego.
What remains to be abandoned?
Not life.
The illusion that “I am the doer.”
Offer ego to the Mother.
Offer superego to the Mother.
Offer yesterday and tomorrow to the Mother.
And remain in innocence.
For when the wave surrenders its separate name,
it discovers that it was never other than the ocean.
When the ray ceases to claim its own brilliance,
it knows itself as the light of the sun.
And when the seeker lays the little “I” at the Feet of the Mother,
Shri Ganesha awakens within.
Then purity is no longer a discipline.
It becomes nature.
Wisdom is no longer thought.
It becomes vision.
Love is no longer effort.
It becomes existence.
And surrender is no longer an act.
It becomes freedom.
O Mother,
awaken within us the great power of Shri Ganesha.
Establish innocence in our Mooladhara,
discretion in our conduct,
humility in our knowledge,
maryada in our relationships,
joy in our hearts,
and surrender in our Spirit.
For he who becomes innocent becomes present.
He who becomes present becomes peaceful.
He who becomes humble becomes wise.
And he who surrenders to the Mother
becomes free.
